Organisational unit: Research Grouping
We conduct high quality research within a number of themes relating to
primary care and general practice and we provide teaching throughout the
medical undergraduate curriculum. We are one of the leading centres in
England which form the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) School
for Primary Care Research.
The Centre for Academic Primary Care is a multidisciplinary group,
including academic health professionals, namely GPs and nurses, as well as
health service researchers from a variety of backgrounds and administrative
support staff. We work collaboratively with academics from related fields
(e.g. public health, mental health, clinical trials) within the School for
Social and Community Medicine.
We have strong links with general practices in Bristol and the surrounding
area, and also contribute to primary health care through involvement with
local clinical commissioning groups and NHS England. Nationally we work
with research organisations, professional bodies and funding bodies. All of
our efforts are designed to benefit patients and develop NHS primary care
research capacity. We have a strong history of success in training
academics through externally funded fellowships.
