As data science specialist in the Jean Golding Institute my primary role is to support researchers throughout the University of Bristol. I provide advice, signpost to other experts and conduct work myself with regards to statistical methods, data processing and management as well as visualisation. Further activities involve engaging with the local community on topics involving data science, for example through presenting on events and the organisation of data challenges using open data.

Before taking on this role I completed a PhD here at the University of Bristol titled Advanced Statistical Methods to Interpret Eye Movements: On Time-Series and Individual Differences

The characteristics of our eye movements can tell us many things about how we approach visual tasks and the psychological processes involved. However, the time-series nature and how eye movement patterns vary between individuals makes it challenging to analyse such data. In my PhD I looked at the behaviour of various statistical methods to address these challenges, in particular hidden Markov models and multilevel models.
