Byron is the Trial Manager for Action 3:30 - a cluster randomised feasibility study of a teaching assistant-led extra-curricular physical activity intervention in 8-10 year olds. This study is currently underway in 12 schools in the South West of England. It is funded by the NIHR-PHR Programme.

Prior to taking this post in April 2017 Byron was a Research Associate for the Sedentary theme at the Bristol Nutrition Biomedical Research Unit, managing trials and observational studies in people with type 2 diabetes. He led on PEDAL; a feasibility trial exploring the use of electrically-assisted bicycles to promote physical activity and reduce sedentary time in people with type 2 diabetes. 

Between 2011-2013 Byron coordinated the PEAR Project (Physical Environment and Activity Relationships in adolescents); a cross-sectional study in 990 adolescents exploring the complicated relationships between young people's objectively measured physical activity profiles and features of the physical and social environment.

Byron was also a young researcher with the iFamily consortium; an EC FP7 cohort study across 8 European countries. He worked alongside Professor Angie Page and Professor Ashley Cooper to deliver iFamily work package 5: "Physical activity and the environment".
