Research Interests
My research interests focus on two major areas: the history of Rome in the Republican and Augustan periods, and classical (particularly Roman) historiography. The two are intimately linked: in my PhD thesis on Sallust I sought to use the historiographical text as a source for intellectual history more broadly, attempting to establish an intellectual context within which to read the historian's work. The monograph based on this thesis is under contract with Brill, for publication in their series on the historiography of Rome and its empire.

My other interests include classical rhetoric, Cicero, and cultural memory; my next project will be on the metaphors used by the Romans of the 1st centuries BC and AD to conceptualise historical change.

I completed my PhD at UCL in 2015, and joined the University of Bristol immediately thereafter; as well as my current position in Ancient History I have also held the position of Teaching Fellow in Latin.
