Abstract

Timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Toy Story’s release (Lasseter, 1995), the “Toy Story at 20” conference reconsidered the significant impact of Pixar’s first completely computer-generated animated feature. Co-organised by Dr Noel Brown (Newcastle University), Michael Shaftoe, Dr Susan Smith, and Sam Summers (University of Sunderland), the conference was a unique opportunity to examine the first instalment of the Pixar franchise that has become an international phenomenon. Panel sessions covered a wide range of topics, from the aesthetics of the film and its place within contemporary Hollywood, to its reception and merchandising.
